Welcome to the Mattis Lab
Our lab is trying to understand underlying genetic mechanisms of fatty liver disease.
Our lab uses advanced cell culture models from patients combined with imaging and quantitative analysis to identify genetic pathways and develop targets to treat human liver diseases.
Fatty liver disease results in cellular stress leading to increased liver fibrosis and inflammation.

The Mattis Research Laboratory at UCSF is dedicated to understanding the molecular mechanisms driving human fatty liver disease. We are especially interested in using in vitro models in iPS-derived hepatocytes and the contribution of microRNAs to the regulation of these molecular networks. We also employ mouse models to better understand novel pathways and their contributions to the in vivo environment.
